A Teacher's Song: A Season of Celebration

60-90 minutes, all teachers

The Beginning of the School Year, Veterans Day, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, A Retirement, A Remembrance, A Program of Special Recognition

Dear Administrator:

Each school year brings many opportunities to celebrate. “A Season to Celebrate” is a program of music and stories designed to enhance school-based celebrations.

I am a retired teacher. I am also a writer and musician. For over 30-years—through story and song—I have helped teachers celebrate special moments, events, and seasons. For example:
  • To help celebrate the beginning of the school year, I often share “The First Day of School,” a story about facing the unexpected, and I often sing a children’s song, “I Know How.”

  • To help celebrate Veteran’s Day (or Memorial Day), I often share “Remembering Fred,” a story about a name lost on paper but remembered in granite, and I often play “Shenandoah” on the harmonica.

  • To help celebrate the Christmas season, I often share “Christmas Candy,” a story about a boy who ponders a piece of candy that he’s not allowed to eat (at least not during church), and I often play “Simple Gifts” on the hammer dulcimer.

  • To help celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, I often share “Kissing the Blarney Stone,” a silly story about kissing and sanitation, and I often play “The Devil & the Farmer’s Wife” on the banjo.

  • To help celebrate a season of hope, I often share “I Got To,” a poem about an elderly slave who finds dignity amongst indignity, and I often sing (and lead) “This Little Light of Mine.”
For each season, I honor cultural and religious diversity. And per season, event, or topic, I have many songs and stories to share.

I would welcome the opportunity to help celebrate a special occasion at your school or professional meeting.

Please let me know if I can of service.

Thank you,
